Patients are seen by
appointment only. Routine
appointments
may be made by calling our main office at (724)-834-8113. Please
specify in which office you would like to be seen (Greensburg or
Irwin),
whether this is your first visit with Dr. Klingensmith or if
you are an established patient
and your insurance provider. Our general office hours are
Monday
through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Patients are seen Monday,
Wednesday,
Thursday Friday. We will try to accommodate your schedule,
however certain conditions may require our specified times or
locations.
Urgent appointments are
scheduled as soon as
possible. Emergency
problems will be seen at the first opportunity, either in the office or
at the Westmoreland Regional Hospital Emergency Trauma Unit.
Unless
this is a "life or death" situation, it would be wise to make
arrangements
with our office before rushing to the emergency room. You
may
avoid
a long wait common in all emergency rooms, by following this procedure
and
planning ahead.

You
should arrive for your
first visit
appointment approximately 15 minutes early. You will be asked to
fill out several forms. In order to avoid delays, please bring your insurance information
and
insurance cards with you. It
is absolutely essential that you
bring
an accurate list of all medications and their dosages. A "little
blue heart pill" or a "high blood pressure pill" is not an adequate description.
Your
primary care physician will help you
identify specific medication names and
dosages.
If possible, please furnish copies
of any pertinent x-rays and a physician's
report for your first visit.

Your
medical history, including past
medical
problems, will be collected in detail. Dr. Klingensmith will also
perform a detailed head and neck examination. Good medical
practice
often indicates an examination of head and neck areas not involved with
your problem. You will be asked to remove
your dentures, both upper and lower.
Please be prepared to do this In many
instances, your nose or mouth
may
be sprayed with unpleasant tasting
medications in order to complete
your
exam. These medications may cause numbness in the throat which
may
last up to 30 minutes. You are
urged not to eat or drink until the
numbness
subsides.
In
some circumstances, we may use
small telescope
like instruments to obtain the best view of an area. Parts of the
examination may be uncomfortable and seem
invasive,
however,
these steps are a very important
part of your evaluation. If
you have questions about parts
of the exam, do not hesitate
to ask. Follow
up examinations are typically not as involved.
